Intel Romley (Xeon-E5) systems with mpt_sas: Any experiences to report?

Added by Dan McDonald about 1 year ago

We have heard reports internally of Intel Romley (Xeon-E5) systems with LSI MPT SAS boards having problems with their SAS drives. Given all of the requests from here I've had for I350-happy igb (all of the Romley boards have I350 for their Gigabit Ethernet), I figure some of you have Romleys. Do any of you have mpt_sas with SAS drives working on those Romleys? If so, please share on this thread your HW details.

Thanks, Dan McDonald - Nexenta Platform Engineering

A lot of us just have i350-T2/4 adapters. They're a lot cheaper than the older dual and quad server NICs.

I'm not asking about the i350... I'm asking about the LSI MPT SAS boards. Specifically, does anyone have an 9211-8i working with a Xeon-E5 system?

I had some issues with my 9201-16i and 9211-8i on an E3-1270 + X9SCM-F that weren't present on my older L3426 + X8SIL-F. The issue was that I couldn't see all the drives on both controllers. The solution was to disable the OPROM support for the PCI-E slots that were not actually necessary to boot my OS.

Shoot. This isn't a Romley system with the C600 chipset. While knowing about OpROM is nice, I'm not sure if it'll help me immediately.

I have a new romley supermicro c600 system with 9211-8i... 8 intel 120 GB 520's. Not having any problems with the mptsas driver for the 9211-8i just the onboard c600 SAS driver is not being recognized.

We expect romley support in 3.x release(coming soon), but the sas driver won't be until later this year.

we have a Supermicro X9 HA Cluster (E 5 Romley) working with a LSI 9207-4i-4e (PCIe 3.0) working perfectly in out lab.
