HELP! Everything down after deleting dedupe ZVOL
Added by Darin Gerald 9 months ago
Hello Everyone,
I had two ZVOLs with 1 TB each. The first was dedupe enabled and the second was not. I am using them as VM datastores.
I noticed that I was having various problems with my VMs going down, which were stored on the first volume, and attributed it to dedupe. I migrated all of my VMs off the first ZVOL to the second ZVOL, confirmed everything was off, then deleted the first. Shortly afterwards, I noticed that all my VM Hosts completely lost connectivity to the Nexentastor. I rebooted Nexentastor and am now hung on a screen that says:
Reading ZFS config: *NOTICE: iscsi connection(6) unable to connect to target SENDTARGETS_DISCOVERY NOTICE: iscsi discovery failure - SendTargets (192.168.168.168)
I cannot access the Nexenta Management View.
Even more dire, my hosts still cannot access the SAN.
Any help or advice is appreciated! I'm worried sick that I will not be able to get this back up and have lost some very critical data.
Thanks!!!

Okay, I guess a cry to the community helped. All I had to do was wait it out and it eventually made it to the login prompt.
Management View came back up and my VM Host connectivity was reestablished.

It can take some time to remove an iscsi zvol, especially a deduped one. It can also cause slow downs (just removing a non-dedupe zvol can) and hangs with the nexenta interfaces, nmc etc if there isnt enough ram (not the shell).
